Readings & Videos
Week #7 - Faces in the Clouds by Steward Guthrie. Under the anthropology section of class you will need to read pages 177 - 204. This is the final chapter titled Religion as Anthropomorphism. It is an ebook that can be read online as well as checked out. You will need to sign in to the FIU server in order to view the ebook.

Week #11 - Video assignment. Google Author Series- Hitchens. It is only necessary to view the 20 minute lecture offered by the speaker, however, there is much more interesting explanation offered during the following Q&A.

Listen & Watch an Italian group performing Vivaldi's Double Mandolin Concerto RV 558 with traditional scoring; strings & recorder

Listen to another version of Vivaldi's Double Mandolin Concerto RV 558 scored for strings, horns & harp by Leonard Bernstein

Listen and watch the all boys choir of St. Thomas in Leipzig, Germany where Bach was once Kapellmeister. There are several videos here where they areperforming St. Matthew's Passion.

Here is a video of Bach's famous Tocatta & Fugue in d minor. There is some great footage of the wonderful organbeing used.

This is a modernized twist on Bach's Toccata & Fugue performed by Vanessa Mae on electric-acoustic violin.

Welcome to REL 1210 - Religion of the Old Testament!

This course will explore the Priestly, Deuteronomic and Widsom literature of the Tanakh (Old Testament) along with its composition and the history & archaeology surrounding it. As an introdcution we will touch on Mesopotamian and other related mythologies. Included in our discussion will be a feminist analysis and questions in theodicy. All of these things combined should help develop a fuller understanding of the text.
